The land is scorched and baked under the equatorial sun, sometimes going months without rain. But the mountains rising up from the arid desert are verdant forests. The rivers running through provide much needed water for the wildlife. Northern Kenya is vast, untouched region. Almost entirely overlooked, those that visit tend to only go as far north as Samburu. Venture further north, however, and the range of activities increases, from hiking through the Matthew’s Range to multi-day camel treks and scenic flights over the hauntingly beautiful Lake Turkana.
