The Rift Valley Lakes

Africa’s Great Rift Valley is a 6,000 mile crack in the Earths crust, stretching from Mozambique to Lebanon. The dramatic section that runs through Kenya is dotted with a stunning mix of freshwater and alkaline soda lakes. These lakes play host to a great variety of wildlife, from flamingos, rhinos and lions in Lake Nakuru to an astounding variety of birdlife in Lake Baringo. In the remote north, the little visited Lake Turkana is the largest desert lake in the world and supports one of the largest populations of Nile Crocodiles on the continent. Lake Victoria has some excellent private island lodges with a focus on fishing, whilst Lake Naivasha & Lake Elementaita are great places to relax and ease gently into a safari.
