HELPFUL TIPS  & OUR RECOMMENDATIONS

Passports

Passports are required to travel to East Africa.  They must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the re-entry date into your respective country.  

Make sure you have pages available for the visas that you require, as well as a few extra blank pages.

 

It is advisable to make copies of all your important documents.

Visas

Visa requirements vary for different nationals visiting East Africa.  It is advisable to research online whether or not you require a visa or contact the Embassy or High Commision.

Immunizations
  • Yellow Fever Vaccination is required for certain travellers coming from certain countries - not all countries.  

 

  • Malaria Medication is not required, but it is advised to take before and during your trip to Kenya.

Luggage
  • Your international luggage allowance depend on your airline luggage allowance.  Check with your airline carrier to verify your luggage requirements

 

  • Luggage Recommendations whilst on Safari: Soft, durable bags are recommended (Ruck sacks / duffel bags).  Internal flights in Kenya have a weight limit of 15kgs/bag.

Clothing
  • On Safari in the Mornings and Evenings on game drives it gets pretty cool so you want to think about wearing some nice warm clothes and maybe something wind-proof. Layering your clothing is recommended.

  • Bring comfortable clothes and shoes for travelling and sitting in the car for long durations. 

  • Early Morning and Evening Game drives get quite cold and windy so bring warm clothing for these.

  • Cool Cotton t-shirts / tops

  • Long Sleeve t-shirts / tops

  • Sweater

  • Jacket (Wind / Water Proof)

Bottoms

  • Shorts

  • Well worn-in walking shoes

Swimming Costume

Money 
  • Cash:  Bringing dollars into Africa– MAKE SURE YOUR CASH BILLS ARE NOT ISSUED BEFORE THE YEAR 2000.  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EXCHANGE ANY NOTES THAT ARE ISSUED PRIOR TO THE YEAR 2000.

  • There are good Forex bureau’s where you will be able to exchange the money you require for your safari at a comparable rate to what you would get abroad. 

 

  • Credit Cards: Visa and Mastercard is widely accepted here, but American Express and other cards are not as easily accepted.

  • It is advisable to contact your card issuer and let them know that you are travelling out of the country and you will be using your cards abroad, so they don’t block them while you’re out shopping!

     

     

Health & Medicine 

It is recommended to know and make note of your blood type before travelling. Consider carrying the following with you:

  • Cold / Sinus Medicine

  • Anti itch cream (for bug bites)/ Mosquito Repellant

  • Tummy Meds (immodium / pepto bismol)

  • Fever reliever

  • Pain Killers

  • Band aids

  • Antibiotic Ointment

  • Inhalers

  • Don’t forget any prescription medications you may be on, there are certain medications that you will not get here that you may require, so please bring what you need or may require. 

 

 

Photography

Seeing as we have some really great wildlife and bird life here, a good camera is recommended to capture the memories.

  • Point and Shoot Camera with a minimum 10X optical zoom

  • DSLR – Minimum 200mm zoom

  • Memory Cards – enough to shoot 1500 images

  • Bean bag for resting camera lenses (DSLR)

  • 1 – 2 extra batteries

  • Charger

  • Camera bags should be well padded

  • Binoculars – Minimum 10x40

Miscellaneous 
  • Sun Screen (30SPF or higher)

  • Bug Spray – (25% – 35% Deet for skin application)

  • Converter for your outlet (we’re on 220v 3 pin square plugs – not 110v like USA)

  • Sunglasses 

     

Safety
  • Refrain from walking on your own at night in the major cities or on empty beaches.

  • Be careful wearing jewelry.

  • It’s advisable to wear a money belt that fits under your clothes.

  • Don't carry a lot of camera equipment, especially in the major cities.  

  • Don't leave money & expensive things in your suit case while travelling to Africa
